As a high-level elite distance runner, I know what it’s like to obsess over the sport of running. I know what it’s like to go through the trials and tribulations of injury prevention and injury recovery. I know what it’s like to coach high-level, obsessive athletes in sport, having coached soccer for 10+ years. I also know what it’s like to coach recreational, first-time athletes making their way in the sport, and those that are just looking for some additional guidance periodically.
I am here to help you improve your craft! I am currently accepting in-person clients of any age for running in Cambridge, Paris, Brantford, Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph, ON (+ all the tiny towns in between). I am also accepting online coaching clients from around the world, who want the knowledge without the running buddy right there with you.
If you’re interested in my services, please see more into my Running Journey, my background working with children and youth in sport and recreation, and my educational background.
My Running Journey

I began running competitively at the age of 12, saying goodbye to the world of hockey once and for all. I had been a high-level soccer player throughout my youth, and running provided a great secondary sport to do in the winter time. Very quickly, it became my sport of choice, and I went on to be part of a stellar 4x OFSAA Cross Country team. I then ran all the way into university, improving my 5k PB to 16:40 and 10k to 34:20. To date, I have medaled in every half marathon I’ve competed in, with a PB of 1:17:30.

While I’m proud of these times, I am most proud of the fact that I’ve managed to recover from four major injuries now to come back stronger each time. I can help you through your quest to stay injury free, and come back stronger in the return to sport.
Having gone through so many training cycles over the past fifteen years, I know what it’s like to run high mileage, low mileage, ease into running after an injury, and ramp up the training en route all the way to an ultramarathon. I want to be part of your running journey and can help you attain whatever goals you have in the sport.
Background in Sport + Recreation

I grew up playing hockey and soccer, before trading the stick and the puck for a pair of running shoes at the age of 12. I’ve always been someone who wants to stay active and be on their feet, and it led me down a path of pursuing a career in sports and recreation.
But before jumping into my career, my journey working in sports started at the age of 17, coaching a U8 girls soccer team. I would go on to coach teams and individual athletes for the next nine years, even becoming the Technical Director of a recreational club in London, ON at the age of 23. I attained C License trained status in 2018, and have retained my status as an NCCP Certified Sports Coach since 2014.
During this time, I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo in Recreation & Leisure with a Minor in Psychology, before completing a Master’s degree at Western University in Sport Management & Leadership. Other than running cross country and a sweet Honours Thesis project, my best experience across my university life was leading and teaching an undergraduate course to 75 students on coaching & leadership.
Since then I have worked with hundreds of coaches from around the world pertaining to their coaching craft. I currently mentor and consult with professional coaches, athletes, industry professionals and youth coaches in the realms of analysis and coaching in soccer.
Since leaving the community soccer scene, I’ve been working in Recreation for the Cambridge Neighbourhood Organizations, leading and coordinating recreation programs and events for kids and youth in low-income neighbourhoods. I have recently expanded to programming for adults + older adults, and look forward to building off the mentorship skills I’ve gained with this population through the consultation process I’ve offered for leaders in soccer.

But one of my greatest passions in life still remains running! If you’re interested in working with me on your running journey and improving your craft, all you have to do is fill out the form!

Around the Bay & the quest for intentional training
Since March has rolled in, it’s been all the more imperative me to slightly adapt my approach to what’s coming at the end of March – Around the Bay 30k. Around the Bay is one of Canada’s most famous races, and is often stacked with a deep field of runners from a variety of categories…
How to run faster downhill
From high school running experiences, I’ve long known the secrets to not only successful uphill running, but successful downhill running from watching my friend. The secret sauce is this: lose control. Like Eminem, you just have to lose yourself in the movement. Ben would stop at the end of the downhills and wait for the…
